The calendar says winter doesn't officially begin until December 21, nevertheless Missoula set a new record for snowfall on December 9.

Forecaster with the National Weather Service Genke Keno said Missoula broke a 65 year-old record with Monday's snowfall.

"Looks like we did set a record yesterday," Keno said. "We had 3.8 inches in Missoula, and it broke the previous record which was 3.6 inches set way back in 1948."

Keno said more light snow will continue through the day.

"Through the morning we should see anywhere from two to four inches of snow,"Keno said. "On top of what we got yesterday, we could see a total of anywhere from eight to ten inches of snow."

Keno said Missoula will have a break to dig out from under the snow on Wednesday and Thursday, but a moist pacific system with both rain and snow is headed for the area over the weekend.
