Montana Vehicle Crash Fatalities up in 2013, Pedestrian Deaths Triple

Preliminary numbers from the Montana Highway Patrol show that 2013 had more  vehicle fatalities than 2012.

In 2013, there were at least (the numbers may increase) 199 accidents ending with the deaths of 225 people. That compares to only 191 crashes and 204 deaths in 2012, which itself was an uptick from the recent low of 189 crashes in 2010.

One of the most surprising statistics is the radical increase in pedestrian deaths by vehicles in 2013. Only seven pedestrians were struck and killed by vehicles in 2012, but in 2013 that number jumped to 22.

Though sobering, the number of deaths on Montana's roadways have improved greatly from 2007 when there were 276 fatalities.
