At approximately 2:30 on Thursday afternoon, Missoula Police received a call about a juvenile on the playground at Lowell School with a rifle.

A witness told police he saw the juvenile walk into a home in the 1100 block of Sherwood, just east of the school. Officers called at the residence and contacted a 12 year-old male and determined he was the individual in question.

At that time they determined that the rifle was actually a BB gun.

While police were responding, Lowell; School went into lockdown. Officers were attempting to make contact with the boy’s parents and an investigation has begun into the incident.

The BB gun was located, and Lowell School’s lockdown ended not long after.

More information on the incident will be available on Friday from the Missoula Police Department.
