Rain, Rain, Go Away? New, Wet Weather System Headed to Western Montana This Weekend
A new weather system is expected to push through western Montana this weekend bringing lots and lots of rain with it. Meteorologist Lance Vandenboogart at the National Weather Service in Missoula said travelers should beware of rock slides.
"There's a system moving through this upcoming weekend and it looks pretty wet," Vandenboogart said. "One concern that we have is that the rain could dislodge some rocks on the really steep terrain near area roadways such as what we see on I-90 and Highway 12 west of Lolo in recent months."
Vandenboogart said the storm system is unlikely to add much to area snowpack.
"It's going to be warm. With this system, things cool off a little bit, so there will be snow in the highest terrain, but we're not expecting significant snow accumulations even at passes," Vandenboogart said. "It will be a warmer system than some we may have already seen this winter."
Most of the moisture is expected to hit Montana on Sunday.
