Recap of Griz First Scrimmage Under Coach Stitt
This past Saturday at Washington Grizzly Stadium we got our first look at our Grizzly football team preparing for the upcoming season. We have all heard that first year coach Bob Stitt runs a quick paced offense and that was definitely on display. Although the stars of the scrimmage have to be the hard hitting defense. The only touchdown of the scrimmage came from the defense, when linebacker Kendrick Van Ackeren intercepted a pass and took it twenty eight years for the score.
The Grizzly offense ran quite a few plays out of the shotgun formation and were quick to line up and run the next play, not giving the defense much time to get ready. The Grizzlies used five different quarterbacks on Saturday. The first QB to get reps during the scrimmage was Brady Gustafson gaining 108 passing yards completing nine of his twelve passes. Although the Griz couldn't score an offensive touchdown all five QB's combined for 278 yards completing thirty-eight of the fifty-eight passing attempts.
My top picks for Griz players who are ready for the season now:
John Nguyen - 6 rushes for 49 yards
Jamaal Jones - 5 catches for 50 yards
Ellis Henderson - 4 catches for 47 yards
Kendrick Van Ackeren - 6 tackles, a sack, int for td, and a pass deflection
The Griz have another home scrimmage coming up on Thursday (March 26th), I highly suggest you go check out this team!
