State Senator Jim Shockley of Victor is officially running for Montana's Attorney General on the Republican ticket.

Shockley, a Ravalli County-based State legislator since 1999, has been hinting that the campaign was coming, and last week he filed with the state.

Shockley had a long career with the US Marine Corps and has been practicing law in Victor for over 20 years, both as a criminal prosecutor and as a criminal defense attorney. He's had experience in civil and criminal law in state and federal courts. He has also been an adjunct instructor at the Law School at the University of Montana in Missoula.

While in the legislature, Shockley helped create the Warm Springs Addictions and Change Program to treat felony DUI offenders and, most recently, sponsored SB 52, which lets officers get a warrant to draw blood from uncooperative DUI suspects.
