Stevensville motorists will be experiencing road construction, mainly during the night, starting Monday. August 5. The "pavement preservation" projects will take about two weeks to complete, according to the Montana Department of Transportation. Work will be nightly from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Sunday through Thursday during the construction period. No work will be done Friday and Saturday. And the roads will return to nearly normal traffic patterns during the daylight hours. First, the crews will work on the road surface of Highway 93 between McCalla Creek Bridge to about 3/4 of a mile north of Kootenai Creek Road. After that is completed, the crews will work on the pavement on the East Side Highway from about a mile south of Stevensville, moving through town on Main Street and ending about 1 mile northwest of Stevensville. During construction, 15-minute delays are expected, along with reduced speeds, one-way traffic and single-lane closures. Pilot cars will be used for the Stevensville Main Street section.

Typical preservation methods include milling, paving and chip sealing. Matt Straub, MDT Engineering Project Manger, said, "Pavement preservation keeps roads from falling into serious disrepair, extending the life of roads with minimal investment and disruptions." Drivers are asked to slow down and pay attention to the workers, which is critical during low visibility nighttime hours. More information is available at the MDT Stevensville construction website.
