The Washington Post is reporting that Republican U.S. Representative Steve Daines of Montana will indeed run for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Democrat Max Baucus.
After an announcement on Thursday, October 4, by Lieutenant Governor John Walsh, Montana Democrats finally have a recognizable candidate for the 2014 U.S. Senate race.
Montana's lone congressman Steve Daines visited the Lolo Creek Complex base camp Friday morning and toured the fire area with U.S. Forest Service officials. Daines is the second member of Montana's congressional delegation to visit the site, as Senator Jon Tester, accompanied by Governor Steve Bullock, visited earlier in the week.
The announcement on Saturday is that former governor Brian Schweitzer would not be seeking the U.S. Senate seat held by the retiring Max Baucus, sent shock waves through both the Democratic and Republican parties.
