Target Range Students Get an Extra Day of Summer Thanks to an Old Pump

Kids at Target Range were supposed to be in class after Labor Day, but a broken pump gave them an extra day of summer instead.

"We had a water well pump that went out on Labor Day," said Target Range Superintendent Corey Austin. "Our maintenance custodial crews and I started working on the solution immediately. We were able to find someone to come in and take care of the situation for us today (September 2)  and we are expecting a regular schedule on Wednesday, September 3 at Target Range."

Even though the shutdown occurred without warning, Austin says no children showed up to school because of a modern notification system.

"We have an early notification system here at Target Range, where we are able to get out an email, a text message, as well as putting [the information] on our website. We also have a reader board out front of the building, so it was very well advertised that we were not going to be in session."

Although the exact age of the pump is unknown, it is Austin says that all of the documents he had on the pump were more than 40 years old.
