Missoula Fire Department Crews were called to a mobile home fire on Friday afternoon. Battalion Chief David Wolter provides details.

“At 2:04 PM, 911 paged out the Missoula Fire Department to a structure fire at 2302 West Broadway-Unit number 16,” said Wolter. “Fire crews arrived on scene of a single wide trailer home with heavy smoke coming from the roof. The homeowner was outside the structure and reported that no one was inside. The first arriving engine crew forced entry into the back of structure where they encountered a large amount of smoke and flames.”

Wolter said the fire didn’t take long to bring under control, but the damage had already been done.

“Firefighters gained control of the fire within minutes, but the structure sustained major smoke and fire damage throughout,” he said. “Water supply was an issue initially; however, crews were able to “hand-log” 5 inch supply hose, approximately 300ft, over a 7 foot high fence and connect to the first-in engine company. Firefighters were on-scene for a couple hours completing salvage and overhaul duties and searching for any remaining hot spots.”

Wolter said the mobile home was considered a total loss.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, and any information should be directed to the Missoula Fire Prevention Bureau at 552-6210.
