Yellowstone National Park marked a a new record for 2015. Spokeswoman Amy Bartlett said with four months left in the calendar year, the park is on track to have one of its highest visitation years on record.

"We actually hit a record with three million visits for the first eight months of 2015. This is the first time we've hit three million," Bartlett said. "So 2010 was the last time we had an all-time record, so we're on par to beat that. I guess I should say that it's the first time to hit three million in the first eight months of the year."

Yellowstone had an increase of 10.48 percent compared to August 2014 numbers, a grand total of over 15 percent higher than last year alone.

"As of the end of August, we had 3.1 million visits," Bartlett said. "In 2010, the record was 3.6 million, so we're getting pretty close."

Barlett said these numbers encourage Yellowstone employees to continue looking at what this means for the future and what the park can do to improve visitor experiences while still protecting park resources
