23 year-old Glenn Sipp-Angst appeared in Missoula Justice Court on Wednesday, charged with felony aggravated assault and felony assault on minor after allegedly strangling and beating his girlfriend and physically assaulting her 16 month-old son because he wouldn’t stop crying.

According to court documents, the incident occurred last Sunday when Sipp-Angst and his girlfriend got into an argument. At about 1:00 a.m. her child woke up and began crying, which upset the defendant. The defendant picked the child up and yelled at him to shut up. He then stuffed baby wipes and socks into the child’s mouth to make him stop. When Jane Doe attempted to stop him, he punched her in the head, then got on top of her and began choking her.

The defendant then picked up the child and took him into the bathroom and locked the door. Jane Doe was able to see through a crack in the door that the defendant picked up the child and threw him against the side of a washing machine, and threw him into the bathtub. He then brought the child out of the bathroom and laid him on the floor, and began striking the child with his right hand. The child was screaming and crying the entire time.

Jane Doe tried to get the defendant off her son and he choked her four to five more times throughout the incident.

The defendant eventually fell asleep, and Jane Doe was able to escape the home with her child, when she called her father and he picked them up and removed them from the scene.

Chief Deputy Missoula County Attorney Jason Marks said when Judge Karen Orzech was discussing possible conditions of release, Sipp-Angst became upset.

"In the course of setting conditions of release, Judge Orzech said the defendant should have any contact with the female victim or the child., he told her in effect that that was not going to happen, that he was going to have contact with her. At that point, Judge Orzech told him that if there was any contact, the bail would be one million dollars."

Marks said aggravated assault carries a maximum penalty of up to 20 years in prison and a $50,000 fine, while felony assault on a minor carries a possible five year sentence and up to a $50,000 fine.

Judge Orzech set bail at $100,000 and remanded Sipp=Angst back to the Missoula County Jail.
