Suspect in Early Tuesday Morning Fatal Hit and Run Identified
34 year-old Robert Charles Nelson was identified by the Missoula County Attorney’s office as the suspect in Tuesday morning’s fatal hit and run incident.
Deputy Missoula County Attorney Meghann Paddock provided details to KGVO News.
“Mr. Nelson is charged with failure to remain at an accident scene where a person is killed or seriously injured, tampering with or fabricating physical evidence, and failure to carry proof of insurance, which is a felony,” said Paddock. “It is alleged that he struck a person, did not stop or remain at the scene, and the person died. It is also alleged that he made some effort to conceal the damage to his car, and that he did not have proof of insurance on the vehicle he was driving.”
The incident occurred early Tuesday morning on West Broadway just after 6:30 a.m. and the roadway was closed until about 11:00 a.m. as the investigation progressed. Nelson was apprehended a short time later just west of where the incident occurred.
Nelson’s charges have been transmitted directly to Missoula District Court, but no date for his appearance was provided.
He was placed in the Missoula County jail on $10,000 bond.
The 63 year-old victim’s name has not yet been released by the Missoula County Coroner.
