The Wall Street Journal reports today that over 45 million Americans, that’s nearly 15% of the U. S. population relied on Food Stamps in August. According to the U. S. Department of Agriculture, that’s a 8.1% increase in the past year alone. I spoke with the Montana Food Bank Network’s Public Policy Director LaurieAnne Burhop about how those statistics compare to Montana, and specifically Missoula. That interview is attached.
Burhop says the rise in food stamp use in Missoula County is alarming, but that the rate of increase is beginning to slow down.
