The weather forecast for Memorial Day weekend is not looking good for those of us who will be in western Montana. Even though highs are expected to hover in the upper 60s, rain and thunderstorms are pretty much a given at this point. But don’t let a little gloomy weather ruin your holiday weekend — there’s plenty of fun to be had indoors. Here are a few suggestions:

    Catch a flick

When was the last time you saw a movie on the big screen? If you’re like me, it’s been a while since you’ve had the time or energy to make your way out to the theater. This weekend, use your extra free time to grab a date and splurge on a couple of movie tickets and a large popcorn.

    Bake a treat

One of the drawbacks to hot weather is that it’s a pain to turn on the oven when you’re already flushed and sweaty. So, make the best of the dreary weather by mixing up a batch of patriotic cookies, cupcakes or Rice Krispies treats in honor of Memorial Day.

    Find a bargain

Memorial Day is notorious for sales, so why not spend some time hunting for deals? Head out to Southgate Mall, where you can escape the rain and spend the day stocking up on new summer duds for the sunny days ahead.

    Mix up a cocktail

Even if your Memorial Day barbecue is rained out, there’s no reason you can’t entertain a crowd indoors — especially if you have a few fun drink recipes up your sleeve, like this red-white-and-blue concoction that is served in a restaurant in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.

    Go dancing

Now that many University of Montana students are gone for the summer, the bars are way less crowded, meaning there’s way more room on the dance floor for you and your partner to bust a move. And if you're looking for something more to spice up your life, Pepper will be performing at the Wilma on Friday, May 24. Tickets are available at Rockin' Rudy's, by calling 866-468-7624, online at www.TicketWeb.com, or www.KnittingFactory.com
