Bitterly Cold Temperatures Throughout Western Montana – Power Out in Bitterroot Valley

Dozens of communities around Western Montana reported double digit below zero temperatures on Wednesday night into Thursday, February 6.

National Weather Service Meteorologist Dave Noble provided just a few official examples of low temperatures, as of about 3 a.m.

"Ronan airport, 35 below, 34 below at Swan Lake, 34 below in Seeley Lake, in St. Ignatius it's 24 below, 35 below in Hot Springs, it's nearly 40 below at Marias Pass, 34 below in Potomac, and 37 below at Georgetown Lake." Noble said.

The National Weather Service said the bitterly cold temperatures will subside as the weekend approaches, with temperatures into the 30's by Sunday and Monday.

KGVO received many reports of a power outage in the Bitterroot Valley, primarily on the east side of the Bitterroot River. Reports came from Corvallis, Florence, Eagle Watch, Hidden Valley, and the 8-Mile area.

Because of the outage and cold temperatures, school was cancelled for Thursday in Lone Rock and Stevensville, with a two-hour delay in Corvallis.

Some power was restored in Corvallis as of 7 a.m.
