UPDATE – Body Recovered From Clark Fork River in Missoula Was Female – ‘No Apparent Signs Of Foul Play’ – Police
UPDATE - 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 21
The Missoula Police Department confirmed that the body of a deceased female was recovered from the ice on the Clark Fork River.
Spokesman Travis Welsh said the call came in to 9-1-1 just before noon.
"At 11:46 this morning, we responded to a report of somebody lying on the ice on the north side of the Clark Fork River in the 600 block of West Broadway," Welsh began. "A person on the south side of the river had noted what appeared to be clothing out on the ice. First responders arrived and did indeed find the body of an adult female lying on the ice just a few feet from the bank."
Welsh said her identity has not yet been released.
"At this point, we have not identified her or ascertained any specific age, however we continue to investigate the cause of the woman's death," he said. "It's too soon to tell right now, although there were no obvious signs of trauma. The body was transported to the Montana State Crime Lab here in Missoula for a potential autopsy, and hopefully, we'll know more in the coming days.

Officials responded to reports of a woman laying face down in the Clark Fork River just after 11:45 a.m. Wednesday.
Missoula Police Department's Travis Welsh confirm with NBC Montana that the woman is deceased and the cause of her death is being investigated.
