Freezing Rain Leaves Streets Icy for Tuesday Driving [AUDIO]
Monday night, December 23, Missoula and much of western Montana experienced temperatures just warm enough to allow freezing rain, which has turned into ice overnight into Tuesday.
Sergeant Tony Rio with the Missoula Sheriff's Department said early Tuesday morning that many if the side streets and hilly areas of Missoula are experiencing black ice conditions.
"We had freezing rain all night last night, and the roads are pretty slick this morning, especially the side streets," Rio said. "It looks like the city trucks have been out putting down deicer on the major intersections, but still the side streets and many of the less-traveled roads are really slick."
Rio said drivers must use extra caution until the icy roads have a chance to clear.
"We're asking people to drive carefully, and most importantly, to slow down," Rio said.
A winter weather advisory was in effect most of Monday night, due to the icy road conditions.
