Montana isn't usually seen as a 'food destination' unless it's for one of our famous steakhouses

But when it comes to America's favorite fast-food franchises, certain places in Montana do become destinations. According to a story from restaurantnews.com, there are five fast-food franchises that people will travel for and Montana has multiple locations for two of the franchises on the list.

We've had one chain open locations in Montana in the past couple of years and Montanans showed up in droves. The Chick-fil-A in Missoula saw so many cars it caused a traffic jam and police officers had to help direct traffic. But the sandwiches are so popular there's no question people would travel across Montana to try it. As a reminder here's where you can find Chick-fil-A in Montana right now:

  • Billings - 670 S 24th S W
  • Kalispell - 35 Treeline Rd
  • Missoula - 2880 N Reserve St
  • Bozeman - 751 W Grant Street

The other fast-food chain that made the list of 'Destination Restaurants' was Krispy Kreme. I remember that my mom called me when I was away at college just to tell me that Missoula was getting a Krispy Kreme. Having never cared much for donuts, I wasn't sure what the big deal was, but she told me about the long lines of people waiting for the donuts. And before it arrived in Missoula she used to get Krispy Kreme whenever she was in Spokane (and it wouldn't be out of the question for her to find an excuse to go to Spokane).

According to a 2015 story from montanarightnow.com, Missoula's original Krispy Kreme closed in 2007 but reopened just off Brooks Street on Central Avenue where it still is today.  Here's where you can find Krispy Kreme in Montana today:

    • Billings - 2520 Central Avenue
    • Missoula 1025 W Central Avenue
    • Kalispell - Hwy 93 N
