USA Today reports that J.C. Penney will close 33 under performing stores and lay off 2,000 employees. Two of those stores are in Montana.

The company said the closings will save about $65 million per year beginning in 2014.  The stores are expected to be closed by May.

Two stores in Montana, in Butte and Cut Bank, were listed for closure. The J.C. Penney Store in Missoula was not listed for closure.
