It had to happen sometime, but my story began in earnest today (Saturday) when, after coming down with what I thought was just a cold on Friday, turned out to be COVID 19 today.

I managed to get through my Montana Morning News show and Talk Back on Friday, but after I got home I realized that my annual ‘January cold’ had arrived.

My very wise wife, who works at a local hospital herself, said I’d better get tested, just in case. So, I went to the Flynn Lane COVID testing center not realizing it was closed on Saturday.

That led to a visit to the Grant Creek Walk-in Clinic, where I was seen by a physician who, after sticking that long swab up my nose for a rapid test, told me, ‘Well, you’re positive for COVID.”

It was a big surprise, because I am FULLY vaccinated (Johnson and Johnson) and have received my booster, and a flu shot, so, it seems I'm one of the many 'breakthrough' cases.

Now what?

I immediately called my wife and family, all who are involved in the healthcare industry and they all said the same thing: Go home and stay home for the next five days.

Here’s the crazy part; I FEEL FINE!!! Just a little runny nose and a very slight cough, but the instructions I received from the Missoula City County Health Department were quite clear (and I intend to follow them):

Rest, drink plenty of clear fluids, diet as tolerated.

Tylenol or Ibuprofen for body aches, headache and fever control.

Warm fluids with honey to soothe the throat and to help with cough suppression.

Mucolytic, such as Mucinex  to help with congestion, as needed.

Antitussives such as Delsym or Robitussin to help with cough suppression, as needed.

CDC guidance advises 5-10 isolation from symptom onset, and that once you are fever-free for at least 24 hours after your isolation (I never had a fever anyway)

Follow up in the clinic if not dramatically improved over the next 5 to 7 days, or sooner if it worsens.

If you have any significant worsening, such as severe shortness of breath, chest pain, persistent vomiting or confusion, seek care at a local Emergency Room.’

Here’s the good news; my blood pressure was 108/70. and my temperature was only 97.1. My oxygen saturation rate was nearly perfect at 96 percent.

So, in other words, I’m in perfect health….except that I have COVID!!

Needless to say, I will not be able to do my Montana Morning News show or Talk Back all next week, so the Town Square crew will be filling in as best as possible.

I will keep you all up to date on my progress and here’s hoping it will be super boring!

Seriously, I want to thank all of you who already have my situation in your prayers…it means a lot!
