A 28-year-old Missoula man appeared in city court today on two felony counts of sexual abuse of children after failing to appear in court last month.

Missoula County Attorney Kirsten Pabst said the complaint was originally filed June 17, but suspicious activity by Joshua Daniel Carroll began in late May.

Missoula County Sheriff Detectives found two tips regarding suspicious activity via Twitter from the National Center of Missing and Exploited Children. Reports said the Twitter accounts linked Carroll to more than 17 images relating to child pornography.

"[Joshua Daniel] Carroll was just arrested on a warrant. He will appear on that warrant Monday afternoon and face two counts of felony sexual abuse of children which is essentially the possession of child pornography," Pabst said.

There were two Twitter accounts total, and after further investigation, officials linked Carroll to both accounts. Further investigation indicates that police contacted Carroll on June 15, where he admitted to authorities that he is "attracted to 7-year-old girls." After a search warrant was issued for Carroll's phone and electronics, authorities discovered more illegal pictures of 5 to 7-year-old girls.

"For these charges, he's looking at 100 years on each count maximum as well as a total maximum fine of about $20,000," Pabst added.

Carroll's bail is set at $50,000 with his next court appearance set for August 25.
