Missoula Man Arrested After Firing Handgun Into Ceiling Of Second Floor Apartment – With One More Floor Above
30 year-old David Basye was arrested early Friday morning after allegedly firing a handgun at the ceiling of a second floor apartment, with another floor directly above.
Missoula Police Public Information Officer Travis Welsh said the incident occurred in the same apartment complex that was the site of a drug deal shooting in April.
"At about 12:30 a.m. officers were called to the report of a disturbance between a male and a female in an apartment in the 1600 block of Milwaukee Way," Welsh said. "The male appeared to have been drinking alcohol and was somewhat intoxicated. After interviews with the male and the female and a neighbor who thought he heard a gunshot, officers learned there had been a verbal argument between the male and female and Mr. Bayse retrieved a handgun and actually fired off a round inside the apartment on an upward trajectory."
Welsh said the couple lived on the second floor of a three-story apartment building.
"As they live on the second floor, officers became concerned for those who live directly above them because of the gunshot," he continued. "They did make contact with the persons who lived directly above and were happy to see that nobody was injured, however, due to the circumstances, Mr, Bayse was arrested on a charge of criminal endangerment."
Bayse was released on bond after his Friday Justice Court appearance.
