On March 2, 2022, at approximately 1:08 a.m., Missoula Police Department officers responded to a reported disturbance in the area of Cooper Street and Cowper Street. A male was reportedly chasing other individuals with a knife.

Officers approached the male and were able to place him into handcuffs. The male was identified as 25-year-old Ramzie Conway-Hairybull. Police Public Information Officer Lydia Arnold explains.

“Hairybull engaged in a verbal argument with the victims who are also acquaintances to him,” Arnold said. “Hairybull was making verbal threats and then physically started chasing the victims with a knife. The victims had to use vehicles to keep space between Hairybull and themselves. The victims were concerned for their safety. Officers located Hairybull and took him into custody. Officers were able to locate and recover the knife used in the incident.”

Hairybull was arrested and transported to the Missoula County Detention Center. An officer made contact with the two male victims. The victim who called 911 said Hairybull approached them “with a purpose.” The victim heard two people arguing closer to Cowper Street and Broadway Street, and that Hairybull said that he wanted the victims to go with him so he could "tackle" the male who was arguing.

According to court documents, Hairybull said, "if you guys don't help me, I'm going to slit your wrists.” The victim then saw Hairybull produce a large knife. Then Hairybull allegedly began chasing both victims.

At the intersection of Cooper Street and Byron Street, an officer located a knife matching the description given by the victims. The knife was lying in the grass. The knife appeared to be fixed blade sushi style knife that had the stippling on the blade. The knife was a Blue Diamond Brand and approximately 8 inches in length.

Hairybull is currently being charged with two counts of felony assault with a weapon.
