Montana women's basketball coach Robin Selvig coached his 1,000th Lady Griz game Thursday night.

Selvig joins Tennessee coach Pat Summit and Georgia coach Andy Landers as the only active NCAA Division I women's basketball coaches who have reached 1,000 games at a single school. Summit has coached 1,276 games in 38 years at Tennessee while Landers has 1,041 games with the Bulldogs.

Selvig, who is in his 34th season, has a 762-238 record after Cal State Bakersfield defeated Montana 64-56 Thursday night.

Montana chose Selvig over several applicants before the 1978-79 season, including Tara VanDerveer, who has coached Stanford to two national championships.

Selvig says he loves coaching at Montana, has been blessed with good, competitive athletes and the program has been able to become somewhat nationally competitive.

He says he's never had a team he didn't like.
