Authorities say no charges will be filed against the driver who hit and killed an 11-year-old girl on an Interstate 15 onramp in Helena.

Montana Highway Patrol Trooper Jeremy Lee say the driver was traveling well below the 75 mph speed limit when Haile Barrett of Helena was struck the evening of Oct. 20.

Barrett was walking with a friend across the two-lane onramp at 11th Avenue when she was hit, and she died at a local hospital about 45 minutes later. No other injuries were reported.

The accident happened near the Capitol interchange, where a pedestrian bridge is currently being constructed. The bridge is expected to be completed the second week on November.
