Senator Jon Tester Receives Award From Montana National Guard
On Saturday in Great Falls, Montana's senior Senator Jon Tester received the Montgomery Medal for outstanding support for the National Guard.
Tester said he fully supports the mission of the National Guard in Montana, and was humbled to receive the award.
"I know the difference you that serve in the National Guard make, and when the Montana National Guard Association outlines their priorities, your priorities become my priorities," Tester said. "When disaster strikes here at home, or there are firestorms and earthquakes, the Montana National Guard is there to serve."
Tester also praised the recent transition of the Montana Air National Guard to what he called 'the work force of the Air Force'.
"It seems like just yesterday when there was a dark cloud over the Montana Air National Guard's mission here in Great Falls," he said. "But, because of the world-class reputation of Montana's Air National Guard, and strong leadership here in this community, we brought the C-130's here to sail the Big Sky and assure the next chapter here in Great Falls that the 120th Airlift Wing is now the 'work force of the Air Force.' This C-130 mission has enabled the airmen to go to assist in natural disasters and deliver critical supplies to folks across the country and across the globe."
The medal is named in honor of former brigadier general and Mississippi congressman, Gillespie V. “Sonny” Montgomery.
