Three Dead after Two Vehicle Crash near Ronan

The Montana Highway Patrol has confirmed that three people are dead after a two vehicle head-on crash that occurred early Monday morning on Highway 93 near Ronan.

MHP Trooper Zach Miller explained what happened.

“There was a red Lincoln Town Car headed north at about mile marker 42 and a black Chrysler 300 headed south in the same area,” said Miller. “The red Lincoln Town Car hit the guardrail on the right hand side of the road and then entered the southbound lane. The driver attempted to correct back into the northbound lane, overcorrected and both vehicles collided in the center of the roadway.”

Miller provided more details about the three persons who were killed in the crash.

“The red Lincoln Town Car had two men in their twenties and the black Chrysler 300 had a female in her mid to late 60’s who was a Lake County resident, while the two men in the Lincoln Town Car were from Minnesota,” he said. “They were both going at highway speeds, so I can say that speed was a contributing factor, but not the sole factor.”

Trooper Miller said he did not suspect that alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash and was unsure if distracted driving, such as texting or phone use played a part in the crash, and he said all three victims were wearing their seat belts.

Miller said the crash occurred four or five miles south of Ronan on Highway 93. The Montana Highway Patrol continues to investigate the fatal crash that occurred just after 7:00 a.m.

Personnel from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office participated in the investigation.
