Tuesday Morning Apartment Break-In Leads to Burglary Charge [AUDIO]
An unidentified Hamilton man, 25, was arrested at about 3 a.m. Tuesday after breaking out an apartment window in the 3000 block of South West Higgins in Missoula.
Sergeant Travis Welsh with the Missoula Police Department said the female resident heard the window break when the suspect made entry into the apartment.
"She heard someone inside her apartment, heard a male speaking and called 9-1-1 from her bedroom," Welsh said. "What officers found when they arrived was a male inside the apartment who seemed to be under the influence of some kind of intoxicant. He had smashed through a window, and he was taken into custody with very little incident."
Welsh said the suspect did not appear in court on Tuesday because he was so intoxicated that authorities felt that he would be in no condition to appear before a judge.
Welsh said the female resident of the apartment was not injured in the incident.
"The female had stayed in her bedroom and did not attempt to come out and confront the suspect," Welsh said. "He will appear on Wednesday in Missoula Justice Court and face charges of felony burglary and criminal mischief."
