18 year-old Valerie Bullen appeared in Missoula Justice Court on Thursday on a felony charge of sexual intercourse without consent, after allegedly having an ongoing sexual relationship with an underage, developmentally disabled boy.

Court documents state that from October of 2106 to January of 2016, Bullen had intercourse multiple times with a 14 year-old middle school student, who reportedly has the developmental age of a nine year-old child.

After being interviewed at First Step, the victim said having sex was the defendant's idea. The victim's mother and stepfather attempted to stop the relationship, but the victim ran away from home. At one point, the defendant claimed to be pregnant, but a test showed she was not pregnant.

At her Missoula Justice Court appearance on Thursday, Deputy County Attorney Amber Henning asked Judge Marie Anderson for $5,000 bail.

"The defendant is 18 and is alleged to have had sexual intercourse without consent and had a relationship with a 14 year-old developmentally disabled boy," Henning said. "She was told of his age and warned that what she was doing was illegal. For those reasons, we're asking for $5,000 bail."

A relative of the defendant was in court and asked the judge to keep the defendant in jail. "It's the best place for her right now," the relative said.

Judge Anderson set bail at $5,000, and ordered Bullen to appear again in court on November 17.
