Fire Danger Increases in Bitterroot National Forest

There have already been 10 small forest fires on the Bitterroot National Forest this year. Three were lightning-caused, but seven were human-caused. Add that to a forecast of above-average temperatures for Western Montana and the official Fire Danger has been raised from "Low" to "Moderate." Anna Bateson of the Bitterroot National Forest reports at Moderate fire danger, fires could start from most accidental causes. There are no fire restrictions at this time, but the public is cautioned to be careful.

Keep campfires small and completely extinguish them before leaving camp. Douse the fire with water, stir the ashes and douse again, making sure that the ashes are cold to the touch. By the way, it is illegal to leave a campfire unattended.
