On April 28, 2022, an employee at the Broadway Inn called 911 concerning a female in one of the rooms, Jane Doe. The employee had difficulty understanding Doe, but she said something about being strangled. The room was registered to 59-year-old Martin Jochens. The employee reported that Doe told her Jochens left the hotel room and that Doe was afraid to leave the room. Police Public Information Officer Lydia Arnold picks up the story.

Missoula Police Department Officers responded to a local hotel to speak with a person who had contacted 911 stating they were being trafficked and a victim of sexual assault,” Arnold said. “Officers on scene contacted the victim and took a preliminary statement. Officers were able to observe the crime scene and physical indicators of a crime. Officers secured the crime scene and MPD detectives were called in.”

According to court documents, Doe disclosed that she is Jochens’ acquaintance and has known him for some time. Doe stated that she was with Jochens at the Laughing Grizzly in Missoula on the evening of April 27, 2022, and morning of April 28, 2022.

Jochens and Doe left the Laughing Grizzly in Jochens’ vehicle. While inside the vehicle, Jochens allegedly tried to force Doe into performing oral sex on him. Doe resisted and refused. Jochens then drove Doe to the Broadway Inn and took her to a room. In the room, Doe told Jochens “no” three times to engaging in sexual activity. According to Doe, Jochens used force to engage in sexual intercourse without her consent. KGVO will not provide any additional details about the alleged incident.

“The victim provided detailed information about the suspect, Martin Jochens,” Arnold said. “Officers located Jochens and his vehicle at a nearby casino. When Jochens saw officers approaching, he stood in a position of arrest. Officers had not had any verbal contact with him at the time and found this behavior odd. Officers were able to assist the victim with services including medical and a victim advocate.”

Jochens was arrested and transported to the Missoula County Detention Center. He is currently being charged with sexual intercourse without consent.
