Ever wanted to meet your Missoula County staff and officials in an informal setting? Your chance begins on Friday with a new program called ‘Lunch on the Lawn’.

KGVO News reached out to Missoula County Land and Economic Development Director Emily Brock for details.

“Every Monday and Friday from Memorial Day until Labor Day, we are inviting county staff and members of the public to join us for lunch on the courthouse lawn,” said Brock. “Its an effort for community members to gather and enjoy one of the few public green spaces downtown while also supporting local food vendors.”

Brock said it’s an opportunity for the public to meet and have lunch with the people who make decisions that affect their everyday personal and professional lives.

“We're really encouraging the county commissioners and city council people and elected leaders to come down and connect with people, the regular folks,” she said. “Missoula County is proud of our courthouse lawn and our newly renovated courthouse that serves as a natural space where people can gather and engage with their government in a positive way.”

Brock said there will be food trucks at each event to provide lunch and beverages.

“There will be two food trucks for Lunch in the Lawn on Mondays. The options will rotate between Kamoon and Ragheef which serves Middle Eastern and Mediterranean cuisine,” she said. “Options on Fridays are going to be Wok-ee Mountain which serves Chinese and Thai food and Sonora Shack which offers Mexican style hotdogs and empanadas.”

Brock said county leaders hope the twice-weekly lunches will help foster communication with the public.

“I think being a good leader and partner in downtown is important for county government,” she said. “We're one of the biggest employers, if not the biggest employer downtown and so we want to help our employees feel integrated into the community and help the community feel supported by the county.”

The lunch events will be from 11:00 a.m. till 2:00 p.m. Mondays and Fridays through Labor Day.
