Montana Bar Owner Explains Why He Published Bad Credit of ‘Nazi’ Richard Spencer
Doug Rommereim, the co-owner of the Great Northern Bar in Whitefish, Montana made headlines this week, May 7, after posting a customer’s declined credit card on his Facebook page. The customer in question, just happened to be white supremacist Richard Spencer who came by the bar on Saturday to have a glass of bourbon.
"Richard Spencer has been in town for a few years and he tries to live a quite life, but then he goes out of town and makes a lot of noise," Rommereim said. "You know, there's a lot of people that don't appreciate him and he was just in our bar last Saturday night and then on Monday I looked at the declined credit card list and there was his name, declined, on a $4.75 charge and I couldn't control myself, that's all there is to it, I just had to have a little fun."
On his Facebook post, Rommereim tells Spencer to “please refrain from visiting our establishment in the future” and that the debt will be written off as a bad loan to a “Nazi.” Rommereim says he normally wouldn't publish a customers bad credit, but this was a special case.
"The racist spiels, his ethnic cleansing ideas that I find repugnant as do most people that live in this town," Rommereim said. "I would never put someone's credit card up like that because they got declined, I would never do that... except in this one instance where I thought it was kind of funny. "
Rommereim says he wouldn’t block Spencer from coming to the bar in the future though, saying “I don’t like it, but I don’t want to cause a scene.”
