Road Rage Incident Leads To Three Counts Of Felony Assault With A Weapon
A road rage incident that allegedly occurred on Sunday has sent 65 year-old Donald Waters to the Missoula County Jail on three counts of felony assault with a weapon.
Waters, a disabled veteran from Stevensville, was accused of pointing a loaded handgun at three men inside a vehicle as they were both driving down Highway 93 South. According to court documents, the three men called 9-1-1 and reported that Waters drove up on the passenger side of their vehicle with the window rolled down. All three occupants saw that Waters had a black handgun pointed at them, saying 'I'm going to shoot you.' Waters was later pulled over and surrendered his handgun to a city police officer.
Deputy Missoula County Attorney Brittany Santorno asked Judge Marie Anderson for $50,000 bail.
"This defendant is charged with three counts of assault with a weapon," Santorno said. "It began as a road rage incident. He brandished a gun and pointed it at three young men stating that he was going to shoot them. He has no connection to the three young men. he drove off and was later apprehended and found to be in possession of what he stated was methadone."
Waters told Judge Anderson that he had a prescription for methadone, and it was part of his medical treatments.
Judge Anderson set bail at $25,000 and ordered waters to have no weapons in his possession and to have no contact with the three victims.
