18 year-old Preston Rossbach appeared before District Court Judge Karen Townsend on Tuesday morning, charged with the shooting deaths of two people and the wounding of another at the Mountain Valley Motel early Friday morning.

Deputy Missoula County Attorney Jordan Kilby explained why Rossbach was charged with exactly the same crimes as his fellow defendant Jonathan Whitmore, that being two counts of deliberate homicide, on in the alternative, accountability to deliberate homicide.

“We are still investigating exactly what happened at that motel,” said Kilby. “Right now we have both of them in the room holding firearms and we have victims with multiple gunshot wounds. They have been minimally cooperative with investigators.”

Killed in the incident were 23 year-old Jason Flink and 31 year-old Megan McLaughlin. A third victim received gunshot wounds and is in serious condition at a Missoula hospital.

Both men are in the Missoula County Jail held on $250,000 bond.
